Avdiros red - Vourvoukeli Estate

BRIEF INFORMATION

This wine was dedicated to the name «Άβδηρος«, after the son of the god Hermes from Opounda in Lokrida. According to Greek mythology, the demigod Heracles built the town of Avdira in Thrace in memory of his friend Avdiros when he was killed in the fight with the wild horses of King Diomedes of Thrace. This label features the wild horse of Thrace. It is a particular blend of two Greek varieties (the oldest Greek variety, Limnio, meets the rare Pamidi) and a foreign one (Syrah from France). The Syrah variety provides primary aromas of berries (freshness), while the Limnio, after spending 8 to 12 months in a barrel, provides peppery aromas, as well as notes of cocoa and tobacco. Its taste is soft, with mild tannins and moderate acidity. A full-bodied wine with a pleasant aftertaste.

Appearance

Deep ruby red color.

Bouquet

A bouquet with moderate aromatic intensity, with aromas of mature berries, such as blackberries, licorice, spices, wild cherry, and notes of tobacco.

Taste

A dry taste with mild acidity and body, mild tannins, the taste of fruit and spices, and an aftertaste of moderate duration.

VINIFICATION

Vinification is carried out through fermentation and extensive extraction (lasting 14-19 days) of the Limnio and Syrah varieties in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Aging takes place in oak barrels (225 and 300 liters) for 10 to 12 months, including malolactic fermentation. Vinification of the varieties is carried out separately, and the final mixture that will be bottled is formed after aging in barrels.

The vineyards are located in Avdira, at the southeastern end of the Protected Geographic Indication area.
